At one point in time, The CW was sort of the gold standard for cheesy superhero fare. First two seasons of Arrow? Amazing! First three seasons of The Flash? Brilliant! Some of their other shows? Not so much. Current CW superhero TV shows aren’t getting much love from fans, and the advent of Marvel on Netflix and Disney+ proved that you can make high art centered on people in spandex. However, the network continues to chug along with new content. Enter: Naomi. Based on the comic book series created by writer Brian Michael Bendis (along with writer David F. Walker and artist Jamal Campbell), the show will debut on January 11, 2022.

With the pedigree of Ava DuVernay behind the wheel, I really hope this show avoids The CW curse. If not, I will be forced to make another wish with my monkey’s paw.
