Jim Carrey has enjoyed quite the illustrious career. The comedian turned actor has gone on to become one of the most successful funnymen working today. Although comedy has been his main beat, he’s proven he has range. Most notably in Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And once again, he’s linking up with the quirky director for Kidding. Gondry is signed on as an executive director this time around, but the trailer indicates that the French filmmaker yields a heavy hand throughout the production. The series stars Carrey as a Mr. Rogers-esque children’s TV show host, Mr. Pickles. But judging from the trailer, it appears that Mr. Pickles is in need of an intervention of sorts. The series also stars the ever wonderful Katherine Keener, Judy Greer, and Frank Langella.
Kidding premieres on Showtime on September 9th, 2018.
In his first series regular role in over two decades, Jim Carrey stars as Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children’s television, a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds, who also anchors a multimillion-dollar branding empire. But when Jeff’s family begins to implode, he finds no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through the crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: a kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.
