With remakes barrelling through Hollywood, it should come as no surprise that a remake of Papillon is upon us. Starring Rami Malek of Mr. Robot fame and Charlie Hunnam of “Who are you again?” fame (I kid, I kid. But seriously, I thoroughly enjoyed King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.), the film is a remake of the 1973 film, which is an adaptation of the memoirs Papillon and Banco by French writer Henri “Papillon” Charrière. You would think that a movie of this caliber would be immune to a remake, but hey, dollar, dollar bills, y’all.

Papillon hits theaters on August 24th, 2018.

Based on the international best-selling autobiographic books “Papillon” and “Banco”, the film follows the epic story of Henri “Papillon” Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), a safecracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in the notorious penal colony on Devil’s Island. Determined to regain his freedom, Papillon forms an unlikely alliance with a convicted counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek), who in exchange for protection, agrees to finance Papillon’s escape.
