Jon M. Chu’s cast for Crazy Rich Asians is coming along quite nicely. The movie, based on the book by Kevin Kwan, has been cobbling together its cast. So far, Michelle Yeoh and Constance Wu have been cast, and Harry Shum Jr. is the latest addition. Per THR:
Glee star Harry Shum Jr. has joined the cast of Crazy Rich Asians, Warner Bros.’ adaptation of the Kevin Kwan best-seller.
Fresh Off the Boat star Constance Wu, Gemma Chan (Humans), Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) are toplining the ensemble romantic comedy, which is currently in production. Jon M. Chu is in the director’s chair.
The plot centers on an America-born Chinese economics professor, played by Wu, who travels to her history professor boyfriend’s (Henry Golding) hometown of Singapore for his best friend’s wedding. The woman soon finds out is that her boyfriend comes from an incredibly wealthy family and is the most eligible bachelor in Asia, meaning every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social circle now wants to bring her down.
Sources say Shum will play Chan’s ex-boyfriend.
Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, as well as Ivanhoe president John Penotti, are producing the movie, which is in production in Singapore and Malaysia.
Shum is best known for playing the football player with the fleet feet for six seasons on Glee. He appeared in 2016’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and stars on Freeform’s Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments.
