Filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow is back with another true life story. Titled Detroit, the film centers on the 1967 Detroit riots. The riots not only fractured the city of Detroit, but further fanned the flames of racial injustice in America. Bigelow is no stranger to showcasing movies heavily rooted in reality. Her Oscar winning film The Hurt Locker invited viewers into the brutality of the Iraq War, and Zero Dark Thirty provided moviegoers with the behind the scenes machinations of the rather intense hunt for Osama Bin Laden. And with the current political climate, Bigelow’s Detroit is right on time.

Detroit hits theaters on August 4th, 2017.

From the Academy Award winning director of THE HURT LOCKER and ZERO DARK THIRTY, DETROIT tells the gripping story of one of the darkest moments during the civil unrest that rocked Detroit in the summer of ’67.
