The BlackStar Film Festival is an annual celebration of the visual and storytelling traditions of the African diaspora and of global indigenous communities, showcasing films by black people from around the world.

With the slogan, “By Indie Means Necessary”, the BlackStar Film Festival is proving to be the premier film festival for independent films produced by Africans and African-Americans. Showcasing the works of upcoming and established Black filmmakers, the BlackStar Film Festival is cementing its cultural importance within Philadelphia’s cinematic community. This year, the festival will run from August 4-7, and will feature a theme of migration within the African diaspora and America.
