Ava DuVernay has proven herself to be one the most prolific creatives in the film industry. And now, she is taking her talents to Oprah Winfrey’s OWN, bringing Natalie Baszille’s critically acclaimed novel, Queen Sugar, to the small screen. The series centers on Charley Bordelon (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) and Nova Bordelon (Rutina Wesley), two sisters swept up in family drama when their father’s Louisiana sugarcane farm is left in the care of Charley after his death.

Queen Sugar premieres September 6, 2016 on OWN.
