William Friedkin’s magnus opus, The French Connection, is regarded as the epitome of the “dogged sort of by the books cop, who unwittingly confronts an invincible drug lord” movie narrative. Many films have tried and, unfortunately, failed to live up to the 1971 classic.

Directed by Cedric Jimenez and starring Jean Dujardin (The Artist), The Connection appears to be a sort of inspired companion piece to the film it partially borrows its title from. Although released overseas in late 2014, it is seeking to become part of the summer movie spectacle this year.

The Connection hits theaters in the U.S. on May 15, 2015.
