I don’t know what it is about the typical British crime drama, but everyone and everything seems so awesome and cool. Even when major characters are engaged in highly illegal, immoral, and downright horrible activities. Films like “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”, “Welcome to the Punch”, “Rock n Rolla”, and “Layer Cake”, tend to not only convey a heightened sense of urgency, but a “lots of people are going to get killed” sort of vibe.
The latest buzzed about British crime drama comes courtesy of director Gerard Johnson (He of “Tony” fame. Seriously check it out). “Hyena” tells the typical tale of crooked cops, good cops, and the men who force them to make highly questionable decisions. Stephen Graham (“Boardwalk Empire”) and Peter Fernandino (“A Field in England”) lead the cast.
