Heidi Seman’s Namour has officially found a home with Netflix. After premiering at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival, the movie spent some time on the film festival circuit before it was picked up by ARRAY, the community-based distribution collective from Ava DuVernay. I had the opportunity to see the film during the 2016 Blackstar Film Festival, and it is a powerful meditation on life, love, and the importance of family. But the performance that stands out the most comes from its lead, Kalim Saleh.

Namour hits Netflix on March 15th, 2017.

NAMOUR is a film about why life can feel like it’s passing us by. Chronicling the unraveling of Steven Bassem (Kalim Saleh), a valet driver for a trendy Los Angeles restaurant caught between his dead-end job and the demands of his Arab-American immigrant family. NAMOUR made its world premiere at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival where Egyptian-American filmmaker Heidi Saman garnered the festival’s LA Muse Award.
